Nestled on 32-acres in the heart of Sarasota, The Selby Preschool offers programs and services for adults and children with disabilities to enhance quality of life by encouraging independence, championing inclusion and advocating for their individual rights. Mission
The Selby Preschool is dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing learning environment to help meet the individual needs of all our children in reaching their optimal potential.
Purpose
The purpose of The Selby Preschool is to provide an inclusive, comprehensive child development and academic program for children from 1 to 5 years of age. We are committed to quality, innovative educational programs and customized therapy services as necessary.
Scope
Our staff will provide developmentally appropriate curriculum experiences and activities, as well as therapeutic intervention for those children in need of such services. Classrooms will be staffed by qualified early childhood educators. The School will provide additional family support through educational programs and individual consultations as needed.
Philosophy
Staff and administration will provide a program that:
- Promotes cognitive, social/emotional and physical development;
- Maximizes the independence and enhances the function and potential of our students;
- Provides individualized, quality services to children and their families;
- Provides an interactive school program to ensure that each family’s priorities, concerns and cultures are addressed and incorporated into their child’s daily activities;
- Provides a natural environment where each child’s overall development is enhanced and enriched;
- Provides services to children with disabilities in settings in which children without disabilities participate, to promote development and acceptance;
- Maintains and increase the expertise of staff and quality services by providing opportunities for ongoing professional development.
In order to accomplish these goals, we will provide a child development and academic program that enthusiastically promotes:
- A healthy and safe environment for children;
- Regular communication with parents and family members;
- Trained teachers and assistants;
- Staff-child ratios which ensure quality care and individualized attention;
- Nutritious meals and snacks
- Frequent, positive and warm interactions among adults and children;
- Planned learning activities and materials appropriate to each child’s development needs;
- An opportunity for children with diverse abilities to participate in child developmental and academic services together.
